I was asked to perform at a nudist resort on New years eve 2011/2012. I agreed
to not only do the show, but to perform in the nude. I was told they were
expecting about 150 people plus there was a live camera feed to another nudist resort in New Jersey. I had never been to a nudist resort. I’ve also never performed in front of nude people and never performed in the nude. Hell, I don’t even take my shirt off in public. I wondered if I was going to choke on stage and forget all my material. Here’s what happened….
I spent the entire day with my son. When I’m with my son I don’t answer the
phone, check e-mails, or take my attention from him at all. That’s his time and I love spending it with him. So, I didn’t really have time to think about the show at all until I was on my way. Since I had never been there, I didn’t really think about the show on the way either. I was too busy trying not to get lost. This place was hidden in the hills.
When I got there, the first thing I noticed was how young everybody was. I was told by non-nudists that everyone would be old and fat. This was not the case. The second thing I noticed was how little I cared that everyone was nude. I really was expecting some sort of shock value that just didn’t exists for me. So, I found the cabin where I was supposed to meet up with the people who put the show together and got all my notes together for announcements. I was hosting the event, so I would be on stage several times throughout the night.
About an hour later, it was showtime. I stripped down and covered myself with a towel. Then I headed to the showroom. Once there, I took the towel off and hit the stage to start the show. Once onstage I realized that I didn’t really feel any different than when I perform clothed for a clothed audience. It was kind of anti-climatic. No nerves, no worries, just another show. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time. I got on stage and did what I love to do. I made people laugh. I also got some great feedback from the audience after the show. When hanging out with people after the show I had already forgotten that people were nude. It was way too comfortable and completely non-sexual. I guess I should’ve known that everything I heard was false because no one I spoke to had ever actually been to one of these places either.
In the end, I had a great time at the show. But, the fact that it was a nudist resort didn’t play into my set in any way, positive or negative. It was just a fun show with good people. However, it would have been slightly better if the bar had “Jameson”. Cheers!
